The Edible Indy Foundation
We believe all children are entitled to sustainable and nourishing food because one in five Indiana youths are hungry and 432,000 are on a free or reduced lunch program—in the Indianapolis Public Schools, 77 percent of students fall into this category.
We believe all youths should have empowering opportunities that includes education on growing, producing and developing food that can nourish the whole self. We will help Indiana’s youth learn where real food comes from and the impact it has on their daily life.
We believe food is medicine and poor nutrition impacts childhood behavior, development and growth. Feeding Indiana’s future generations with knowledge will grow the minds, bodies and communities of the future
How we will make a difference
By using Edible Indy as a teaching vehicle to tell impactful stories of real food and how it affects daily lives and communities.
We will work directly with individuals, communities and organizations statewide to access available opportunities that reach the minds of Indiana’s youth. Opportunities may include, but are not limited to:
Providing grants to:
-start school gardening programs and awards for school garden programs
-pay for fresh food tasting programs
-create hands-on cooking classes
-decrease food insecurities
Providing resources to:
-tell the story about real food
-develop additional programming necessary for underserved children
-connect organizations with farm to table programs such as Farm to School
Our core values
Creating an inviting environment where no one is above anyone. Everyone is included in the process of The Foundation and our mission. We must understand the needs of the individuals, organization and community to create steps towards a solution.
Those involved with The Foundation must assert kindness and respect to everyone. These two attributes provide the basis for a positive mission.
Each person should have a desire to make a difference. Every role, every volunteer, every opportunity within our organization no matter the size, should always be focused on making lives better.
