INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Local specialty coffee roaster Tinker Coffee Co. and local restaurant Garden Table have been selected to compete in the 2017 Coffee Mixologist Competition at the Amsterdam Coffee Festival on March 10th, 2017.

Tinker Coffee co-founder Stephen Hall and Garden Table bartender Michael Schrader collaborated to submit their entry to the competition, which beat out selections from all over the world to earn a spot in the competition. Competitors were required to produce a coffee-based cocktail and submit a video of the drink detailing the construction of the beverage for consideration in the contest.

When asked about the development of the drink (which they named Lord Byron), Tinker co- founder Stephen Hall says, “we chose to use our naturally processed Nicaraguan coffee from Byron Corrales of Finca Los Pinos in the drink because we felt the heavy fruit body would work extremely well in a cold-brew concentrate. This coffee is also our only truly Direct Trade lot, and we love celebrating the hard work that Byron and his family put into the production of their coffees.”

Michael Schrader of Garden Table was responsible for the mixology of the cocktail, which is highlighted by Finca Los Pinos cold brew, tequila, spiced pear liqueur, and a rosemary sage simple syrup. According to Michael, “using tequila in the cocktail was an interesting way to add a layer of smoky complexity to the fruity character of the coffee, and the spiced pear liqueur really rounds out and harmonizes the drink.” You can watch a video of Michael making a Lord Byron and see a full list of ingredients on the Tinker Coffee blog [tinkercoffee.com/blog].

Longtime partners of Tinker Coffee Co., Garden Table recently opened a second location of their popular Broad Ripple restaurant on Massachusetts Avenue in downtown Indianapolis. The new restaurant space features a top-of-the-line coffee and cocktail program, with the coffee bar featuring Modbar espresso taps, Mahlkönig grinders, and a G4 filter coffee brewer by Wilbur Curtis.

Beyond coffee, the cocktail program has been a huge draw for the restaurant, and Garden Table founder Jessie Kelley says “the cocktail program at Garden Table is playful and unique. We don't ascribe to any one style, but rather incorporate fresh juices, teas, and coffee into our

cocktails to come up with unique concoctions and twists on the classics. We are excited to be chosen out of thousands of submissions to represent Indy and the explosive F&B scene that's happening here.“

Hall and Schrader will be traveling to Amsterdam on March 9th to complete in the multi-day competition, being held in conjunction with the Amsterdam Coffee Festival.
