Ribs at Hendricks County Rib-Fest

The 11th Hendricks County Rib-fest, sponsored by the Avon Chamber of Commerce, is adding a number of new activities to what is quickly becoming a summer tradition for both locals and visitors.  All the festivities begin at 4 p.m. Organizers expect 7-8 local rib vendors including favorites such as Pit Stop BBQ & Grill, Longhorn Steakhouse, City Barbecue and Judge’s Bar-B-Que. In addition, Edible Arrangements will serve fruit smoothies, and local non-profit groups will be offering desserts such as strawberry shortcake and elephant ears. Admission is free. However, a $5 parking fee will be charged, and all food must be purchased. The event will have a Millennial Park for the first time that will cater to the teen-age crowd. That area will include games and a disc jockey for that age group. The other big change will be the addition of the 5K Rib Run and shorter Quarter Slab Rib Run for kids. The runs will start and end at Kingsway. The 5K Rib Run will begin at 6:30 p.m. To register, go online to www.AvonChamber.org and click on “Hendricks County Rib-Fest” under the Events menu tab. Other activities during this family-friendly event include games, the Indiana Pacers Fan Van, Colts in Motion, an IU West Pedometer Challenge, live entertainment and fireworks beginning after dusk.
