On June 2, beer lovers will travel back in time with every sip as they learn about the history of brewing during History on Tap, presented by the museum’s young professionals group, the Conner Prairie Horizon Council.

More than 20 local breweries will add to the ambiance and offer tastings as guests explore Conner Prairie’s 1836 Prairietown at this adults-only event. In the historic Golden Eagle Inn, attendees will sample a 19th-century beer recipe brewed on-site. While walking through the grounds, guests will bump into a variety of costumed interpreters ready to join in on the revelry or entertain with stories.

Throughout the grounds, craft beer experts will offer demonstrations and answer questions, including several homebrewers who can talk about the basics of the craft and how attendees can pursue the hobby themselves.

As the sun sets over Conner Prairie, rides on the 1859 Balloon Voyage will be offered for an additional cost (weather permitting), providing a view of the grounds and downtown Indy at dusk that guests can’t see during the museum’s daytime hours.

Since its beginnings six years ago, History on Tap has grown from an event of 300 guests to draw more than 1,000 attendees last year.

"I have found that events are all about the experience, and History on Tap offers an environment unlike any other beer festival,” J.P. Patterson, Horizon Council President, said. “Attendees always tell us we have a combination of craft beer, history, and a setting that’s impossible to replicate.”

There are a variety of tickets on sale now for the event, starting at $35 for general admission. Designated driver tickets are $15. All tickets include at least a $5 food voucher, and a full dinner buffet will be offered for $10. Tickets can be purchased online.

“History on Tap provides the perfect atmosphere for exploring Indiana craft beer and history,” said Emily Tschuor, community partnership manager with Sun King Brewing Co. “Not only do you get an exclusive Conner Prairie experience, but you’re also supporting an amazing organization.”
