Batesville Bash Salsa competition

Calling all salsa enthusiasts – August 6 is your time to shine!

Have a great crop of homegrown tomatoes you’d like to show off, or a family salsa recipe that’s out of sight? Are you a salsa snob with a mental list of favorites, and a craving for more? Have you ever wanted to learn to salsa dance, or just need to sharpen up those rusty salsa skills? Then the 2016 Batesville Bash is for you.

The Food and Growers Association, along with Margaret Mary Hospital, are sponsoring a salsa competition during this year’s fifth-annual event. Running from 1-3 p.m. on August 6 in Batesville’s Village Green, the competition will give green thumbs, salsa makers, salsa eaters and even salsa dancers, the chance to strut their stuff.

First-, second- and third-place contestants in the salsa-making competition will receive $50, $30 and $20 respectively, plus $10 in Batesville Farmer’s Market Bucks and a complimentary FGA membership. Want a great snack and the chance to reward your pick for best-tasting salsa? Judges are encouraged to sign up for just $1, and taste all the salsas from 1:30-2:30 p.m. If cutting a rug is more your speed, professional dancers from Latin Expressions Dance Company will be on hand to give free salsa dancing lessons from 1-3 p.m.

To enter or for more information, contact Kathy Cooley at 812-933-5267 or kathy.cooley@mmhealth.org. The Bash runs from 8 a.m. – 11 p.m. on August 6 in downtown Batesville, and features food, cars, kid’s activities, live music and more.
