Santa's Cough Medicine

[Photo provided by Nolan Hudson, 1205 Distillery] The seasonal red color of Santa’s Cough Medicine comes from rhubarb liqueur and simple cranberry syrup.

The blend of 1205 Distillery’s own New American Gin and Rhubarb Liqueur adds sweet and tart citrus notes to this cocktail garnished with festive star anise.

Ingredients

Cocktail
  • 1 ounce 1205 New American Gin
  • 1 ounce 1205 Rhubarb Liqueur 
  • 1 ounce spiced cranberry simple syrup (see included recipe)
  • ¼ ounce lemon juice 
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • Orange peel for garnish
  • Star anise for garnish
  • 1 egg white (optional) 
SPICED CRANBERRY SIMPLE SYRUP
  • 2 cups sugar 
  • 2 cups water 
  • 2 cups cranberries 
  • 5 cloves 
  • 3 cinnamon sticks 
  • Allspice berries 
  • Zest of an orange

Instructions

Yield: One cocktail 

COCKTAIL:

Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange peel and star anise. 

SPICED CRANBERRY SIMPLE SYRUP

Combine all ingredients in a saucepot and simmer for approximately one hour. Strain.
