On Friday, February 17, 2017, Indianapolis’s most influential men and women will come together in a way you have never seen them before – on stage, in costume, starring in a comedic skit at the 22nd annual IRT Celebrity Radio Show fundraising event. This year we expect to have 600 business and community leaders in the IRT Celebrity Radio Show audience.

What is the 2017 IRT Celebrity Radio Show?

It is a truly one-of-a-kind event that focuses on what the IRT does best:  producing a grand and exciting evening of live entertainment.  The event features a hand-crafted script presented as a 1940s radio program with live sound effects, audience participation and community VIPs dressed in costumes.
Some of this year’s cast members include Pat McAfee, Tom Griswold, John & Sarah Lechleiter, Elaine Bedel, and many more.
Most importantly, the Radio Show is the IRT’s only fundraising event of the year. Proceeds go towards creating and producing world class art on the IRT’s stages for Hoosiers from all walks of life to enjoy.

This year’s show is Guess Who’s Coming to Supper written by IRT board member Ron Gifford. The show will focus on the current Indianapolis food scene and the waves being made with the farm to table craze. The evening promises to be full of laughs and lyrics from the Fabulous Torts who sing live jingles in true 1940s radio fashion.

The evening begins at 6:30pm with a pre-show party featuring complimentary food and drinks as well as a silent auction. At 8pm the airwaves go live with the performance of Guess Who’s Coming to Supper. Following the show, there will be a post-show party at 9:30pm.

In 2016, the IRT Celebrity Radio Show raised more than $210,000 to support IRT initiatives including our 2016-17 OneAmerica Season, our student matinees, and our summer conservatory program for youth. This year, our goal is to raise more than $225,000 in support of the Theatre.

We recently caught up with Jennifer Turner at the IRT to ask her some fun questions about the up coming show.

EI:  The theme this year is based on the whirlwind of attention Indianapolis has gotten recently about our food culture. Can you tell us a little bit about what the audience can expect?
JT: It will be a fun send up of the Indianapolis food scene highlighting the current trend of farm to table eating and it will cover everything from urban farming to television cooking shows to campus food courts. Of course, in true Celebrity Radio Show fashion it will be a little tongue in cheek and hilarity both on the page on off will ensue.

EI: Who are some of the who’s who that will be in the show?
JT:Taking the stage this year will be Celebrity Radio Show veterans, Pat McAfee and Tom Griswold along with city and philanthropic leaders such as Marianne Glick, Sarah & John Lechleiter as well as Chancellor Nasser Paydar from IUPUI, President Robert Manuel from University of Indianapolis and President Thomas Minar from Franklin College. And keeping us on track with her skillful narration will be Lauren Lowrey from WISH-TV. We will also once again have the vocal stylings of the Fabulous Torts a group of singing attorneys (well their nearly all attorneys), who sing the jingles in the show.

EI: Why is this fundraising event so important to the IRT and what is the goal for this year?
JT: Ticket revenue only covers about half of what it takes to bring our productions to the stage. The other half comes from donors. This event is a significant part of that donation revenue. This fundraiser also supports our education programming which impacts over 43,000 students each season from 56 of Indiana’s 92 counties.

EI: How much are tickets and what is included?
JT: Tickets for fans of Edible Indy can have the special subscriber discount rate of $150 (this is $25-off regular priced tickets). The code is: RADIOSUB The price of a ticket includes complimentary valet parking, food and drinks along with a great seat to enjoy the show!

So make sure you get your tickets now, as this event will be a show stopper, fill your belly with laughter, food and drinks and you get to be part of a fun foodie event that is one of a kind!
