Garfield Park Farmers Market, LLC will bring it’s own farmers market to the oldest park
in the city of Indianapolis. The Garfield Park Farmers Market will run from the beginning
of May through the end of October and take place every Saturday from 9:00am to
12:30pm. The market will be located in the parking lot next to the tennis courts, near the
corner of Shelby St and E Southern Ave.
The mission is to support local sustainable farmers and producers while creating a
gathering place for community interactions. The mission is to align with the Slow Food
International principles of good, clean and fair food for all. The market will host a variety of food
options for customers, including organic produce, grass fed meats, locally roasted
coffee, artisan cheeses, local honey, and more. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance
Program (SNAP) will also be accepted at this market.
Garfield Park Farmers Market was formed by local food advocates out of a need for
better food access. With the support of Indy Parks & Recreation, Garfield Park
Neighbors Association, South Circle Farm and Big Car Collaborative, Garfield Park
neighbors Julia Woody and Ashley Brooks have spearheaded this initiative.
