Waterfields Introduces Volume Line of Microgreens
CINCINNATI, OH (January 4, 2015) – Waterfields, a social mission-driven startup that sells premium microgreens, edible flowers and other specialty produce to many of the top chefs in the Midwest, has introduced a new volume-based product line of living microgreens under their Hyperfresh brand.
Waterfields is an urban farm with a mission of revitalizing some of Cincinnati Ohio’s most economically hard hit neighborhoods and despite operating strictly in an urban environment is one of eleven USDA GAP-certified farms in Ohio. Waterfields captures underutilized and underappreciated resources in Cincinnati’s urban core and is then able to create livable wage jobs and wealth creation opportunities for local residents.
Waterfields’ new product line will center on volume-based offerings. According to Chief Marketing Officer Daniel Klemens, Waterfields sees a distinct opportunity to better serve chefs with traditional microgreens that reflect quality, consistency and pricing for everyday needs.
“There are two big items chefs look for with produce coming in their doors; quality and consistency are always the top criteria”, said Klemens. “We see a significant gap between what farms shipping from outside the region are offering and what a specialized microgreen grower like ourselves brings into a chef’s kitchen. That gap widens further when we look at more common microgreens, seasonally grown by diversified farms, which are used in larger volumes for versatile plate applications.”
Every week, hundreds of chefs rely on the company for unique and hard to find offerings. Waterfields’ volume line will contrast the existing main-line offerings with 13 varieties that have been hand-selected for the right mix of performance and price.
Waterfields’ initial volume line for 2016 will include Micro Arugula, Micro Cilantro, Micro Italian Basil, Micro China Rose Radish, Micro Daikon Radish, Micro Red Rambo Radish, Micro Upland Cress, Corn Spears, Corn Shoots, Sunflower Shoots, Rainbow Mix, Spicy Mix and a distributor-varying house blend.
