What We Love: Lil Bistro is a gem nestled in the charming town in Redkey. The brick building was once the town bank and now home to the quaint, award winning restaurant. Known for the creative combinations for sandwiches and pizza, this locally owned restaurant is a hot stop for the locals and tourists.

Located just 16 miles from downtown Indianapolis, Kelsay Farms is easily accessible for city dwellers wanting to escape to farm life.

Established in 1847, Kelsay Farms is a sixth generation dairy and crop farm with three of those generations currently working on the land.

The Kelsays turned their attention solely from farming to an agritourism business in 2007. With the launch of Kelsay Farm Tours LLC, the Kelsay family has dedicated their time to educating the public about agriculture. They lead student and scout groups on an in-depth look at the milking parlor, and the groups also take a class where they learn about dairy nutrition.

Spring and summer tours are limited to student groups, but come October, Kelsay Farms is open to the public on weekends for guided farm tours departing every hour. They offer a 5-acre corn maze, hayrides, a pumpkin patch, a straw bale climbing mountain and other family-friendly activities.

When visitors get hungry, there’s a snack bar with chocolate milkshakes and cheeseburgers.

They’re open Friday, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday noon to 10 p.m., and Sunday noon to 6 p.m.

Why We Love it: The drive-in is open all season, yes even in the winter months. Eat in your car or grab a bag of dogs, a gallon of root beer and head to the nearest park.

Pies Galore: Locally Grown Gardens is an indoor farmers’ market, a fresh restaurant, and maybe most importantly, a mecca for pie lovers. The pies are gorgeous and silky with thick crusts. Chef Ron Harris bakes an average of 300 pies per week, including seasonal pies like peach, blueberry, pumpkin and apple, as ingredients allow. And even he can’t get enough of his pies—he says during the summer he eats two to three slices per day. Pie varieties include peach, blueberry, apple and sugar cream. Pies are sold whole or by the slice.

What We Love: Mad Anthony Tap Room in Auburn is home to classic Auburn-Cord & Duesenberg. Formerly the Blackwell Dept. Store, the restaurant is radiates history from the exposed brick walls to the exquisite raised bar. With a wide range of sandwich and handcrafted locally brewed beer options, this is a popular gathering spot for the downtown crowd. The meats are sourced from the local Fort Wayne Company, “Tom Didier Meats”. Make sure to pair your meal with one of the many hand-crafted brews on tap.

Located in Markleville, most of their wine is sweet using locally grown ingredients. Relax in the yard with the family or enjoy the outside patio seating.
